Daegu City, South Korea
Created & Performed by > Seo Jeong Bin

“The ‘Postponed’ is the most regrettable. Things like words that cannot be passed on, journeys that cannot be made, books that cannot be read, tears that I endured, joy that I hid in my heart or hatred, and this happened continuously in life. Why didn’t I have the courage?”.
NOWHERE TO TURN (11’)
Hong Kong, China
Created by > Ji Jie
Performed by > Ji Jie & Zhang Qiangyi
Music > Travis Lake “Dust” & “To-dust-”
“The choreographer aims to illustrate intimate relationships within the framework of a game, with ‘winning or losing’ as the central objective. However, the outcome of this presentation reveals a game that prioritizes competition to sustain relationships. Once individuals become accustomed to their roles and desire the game (i.e. the relationship) to persist, there are no alternative options available. To design the movements, the choreographer incorporates repetitive and oppressive elements, such as ‘Asphyxia’ and ‘hui’, to evoke a physical sensation that arises naturally from one’s own perception. This approach compels both participants (regardless of being winners or losers) to engage in a discussion about the crucial proposition of whether to continue the game”.
MASDANZA Award 2023 at the Yokohama Dance Collection Festival. Yokohama, Japan.
MACARENA (15’)

LOOKATHINGSDIFFERENT

“An intimate and anthropological look at aspects of contemporary life and society. Sandra’s new work is characterized, unlike her previous pieces, by its strong satirical edge and sense of humor, which shape something deeply profound and analyzable about human behavior. It interprets the world we live in, the things that anchor us and bind us to the past, and turns them into dance. The artist defines her work as a contemporary movement piece; she uses the repetition and transformation of the Macarena choreography, a globally recognized movement pattern, to connect with the audience in an intimate way. This choice is not casual: the Macarena is a perfect example of how traditions can adapt and survive, transcending cultural and temporal barriers. The work shows that cultural evolution does not necessarily entail a loss of identity, but rather a continuous renewal that keeps the essence of tradition alive. Through the repetition and transformation of the movement, the piece highlights the idea that adaptation and cultural resistance allow traditions to flourish in a constantly changing world. I find myself tethered to repetition, as if no path beyond the familiar could be traced. Held captive by an elusive force, I cannot release it. It’s better to let the body revel in joy, Macarena”.
