AFRICA IN MOVEMENT

3 septiembre, 2025 Por admin

Dance is an extraordinarily suitable instrument for cultural diplomacy, and this is what MASDANZA has been doing all these years, collaborating in common areas with other cultural initiatives that have a special place for dance and the arts of movement.  Casa África collaborates with the festival to provide visibility to African creators.

MASDANZA AFRICA IN MOVEMENT 2025

THURSDAY OCT 02 – CASA ÁFRICA – 20,00 h

BLACK (30’)

Barcelona, Spain

Created & Performed by: Oulouy

Music by: Nina Simone “Strange Fruit”, Dinah Washington “This Bitter Earth” Jay Z & Pharrell Williams “Entrepreneur”, Kendrick Lamar “Alright”, “The Blacker The Berry”, Samthing Soweto “Akulaleki”, Victoria Santa Cruz “Me Gritaron Negra”, Eva Ayllon “Raíces del Festejo”, King Promise & Shatta Wale “Alright”, Maya Angelou “Still I Rise”, Kenneth Whalum “Might Not Be OK”.

“Black is a reflection on violence and the emancipation of Blackness in today’s world, through a body that challenges and unsettles—a body both wounded and celebrated. Using a staging stripped of artifices yet rich in symbolism, choreographer and performer Oulouy references recent events, such as the #BlackLivesMatter movement and the murder of George Floyd, to reframe the African Black body in the Western world. Black is a dance, a visual and musical chronicle told through urban dance styles from the African continent and its diaspora in the USA, such as Coupé-Décalé, Ndomboló, Afrohouse, and Krump”.

With the support of: Africa Moment
