MASDANZA SHOWCASE

11 enero, 2022 Por admin

The MASDANZA SHOWCASE programme brings the public closer to the artists and creators. The proposals take place in intimate and unconventional spaces, thus creating a closer experience between the spectator and the artist.

MASDANZA SHOWCASE 2022

THURSDAY 06 & FRIDAY 07 // MATA CASTLE // 20,00 h

DAWN CHORUS (10’)

New Taipei City, Taiwan

Created by > WEI-YI CHEN

Performed by > Wei-Yi Chen & Yu-Hsin Hsuan

Original Music> Thom Yorke “Dawn Chorus”

“Those shattered pieces of the past – I’m trying to revive, but the more I want things to work out, the more I realize that everything is way too strained. And the only hope that’s left is that time will heal the wounds, so that we can finally attain our symbiosis. This world is miserable beyond words, and all I wish is to weave a tender piece of art.”

Winner the MASDANZA Award at Stray Birds Dance Platform. Tipei, Taiwan, 2021.

THE BEAUTY OF IT (15’)

L’Esquirol (Catalonia), Spain

Created & Performed by > ÁNGEL DURÁN

Music> Schubert “Schwanengesanch”, Hildur Gudnadottir “Baer”, Beethoven “Piano Sonata No.14 in C-Sharp Minor”.

“ ‘The Beauty of It’ is based on Carl Jung’s theories about the duality between the conscious and the unconscious mind and the inability to differentiate reality from dreams. This piece exposes the fragility of man, as well as a reflection on the authenticity of the actions or characters created by himself. What is the real mask? Is everything we experience real? What is the difference between acting and behaving as it is? ‘The Beauty of It’ uses the recordings of Dr. Carl Jung’s 1957 interview as an external narrator to immerse us in a reflective state where the performer is an object of study, but also a mirror of ourselves. Swept by the different qualities of movement and expressions we dive into the human unconscious”.

MANBUHSA (15’)

Milan, Italy

IVONA

Created by > PABLO GIROLAMI

Performed by > Pablo Girolami & Giacomo Todeschi

Original Music> Jota Karloza y Miss Clo.

Costumes> Caterina Politi

» ‘Manbuhsa’ was created imagining two kids playing in an Asian rice field. Fueled by a fascination for foreign civilizations and inspired by the music’s rhythms, a relationship is built between the dancers. Through movements, one invites the other to discover his natural instinct and vibrations that will guide them in their journey.
Playful yet precise, ‘Manbuhsa’ makes us think of an animal courtship, specially the one’s of birds. While the physicality of ‘Manbuhsa’ can remind us of cranes, the agitation and precision can make us think of the peacock spider”.

I’M NOT FRESH (12’)

Seoul, South Korea

Created & Performed by> BAE SOMI

Music> Vladimir Horowitz “Sonata No. 8 in C Minor, Op. 13 Pathetique”

“Valuelessness of the idea that it needs to be new and fresh. “I’m not fresh” began with the question of what freshness was. Every morning, new things are created, and most of them disappear silently. Everything under the sky is special and there is no correct answer in life, but people want new and fresh things and consider them the correct answer. Colorful directing that does not fit the morphological theme. However, I think this is just an empty shell that destroys the essence of the work and the fundamental characteristic of art. Therefore, the choreographer would like to question the paradigm of the definition of freshness with the view that it can only be renewed if it deviates from the notion that it should be new”.

«The way to give the bird freedom is not to trap the bird in a cage.» Bird Loves Bird

Winner the MASDANZA Award at the New Dance for Asia Festival (NDA) 2021. Seoul, South Korea.
